Principal Scientist/Engineer - Waves/Metocean
Wallingford, South Oxfordshire
FRS-UK are working with a specialist consultancy who offer research and services to help to protect vulnerable communities, improve lives and create resilience in the built and natural environments.

We are recruiting for an experienced Principal Scientist/Engineer to join our growing Coasts and Oceans Group within our Waves and Metocean teams. These teams are specialist in computational modelling assessments for waves, flows, winds, seawater temperature and other Metocean data.

The work requires an excellent understanding of nearshore processes, oceanographic data, computational modelling of waves and flows, and extreme value analysis, for consultancy in ports, harbours, open coast, and offshore wind sites, both for operational and extreme (design) conditions.

The Principal Scientist/Engineer will be at the forefront of our projects, working closely with clients to understand their requirements, while working through technical issues with the teams to formulate proposed solutions. The successful candidate will be communicative, delivery-focussed (proposals and projects), quality-focussed, and will relish the opportunity to work under pressure to manage/direct and deliver numerous consultancy projects to clients around the world, while contributing to the development of more junior staff and to the company’s internal research programme in relation to waves and Metocean.

-
A strong background in scientific computing in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Matlab, FORTRAN.
-
Able to confidently discuss clients’ technical problems with them, formulate proposed solutions (working with the team) and execute the required work delivering the clients’ requirements.
